Why Forensic Scars?

By: Maria da Conceição
I am Maria da Conceição, a student of Forensic and Criminal Sciences at the European Forensic Institute, dedicated to giving voice to stories silenced by crimes and abuse. I have a deep passion for forensic education and supporting victims, which is why I created the project Forensic Scars / Cicatrizes Forenses.
Through this project, I present to the world the story of Martinna Beckett, a young woman who could be me, who could be you. At 15, she was recruited by a secret service, subjected to rigorous training and dangerous work, and now, at 24, became a victim of violence by a figure of institutional power. To this day, Martinna continues her fight for justice. I closely follow her case, share her testimony in the podcast episodes, and am committed to supporting her until the very end.
I also want to support other victims, which is why I created this space to deepen the understanding of the scars left on victims, investigators, and society after a criminal case. Here, we combine education, case analysis, podcasts, and community, offering a safe and informative space for everyone.
